• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Julie Still -- Something for everyone : There are 35 short chapters in this edited book, each focusing on a very specific topic. Some look at visual science fiction: Star Trek, Star Wars, Expanse; others at print, such as the works of John Scalzi, Orson Scott Card, or Octavia Butler. All use these texts to examine strategy and leadership. You might not want to sit down and read it through start to finish, but instead keep the book on a side table or in your car to read a chapter here and there when you have small amounts of time. They are quick reads but still thought-provoking. The most well-known chapter authors in the book are probably Max Brooks, who wrote World War Z, Janeen Webb, whose novels have won multiple awards,and Major General Mick Ryan of the Australian Army. You might not have heard of Jacqueline Whitt but her book on foreign policy is well-known in those circles; the same goes for other chapter authors -- they are accomplished in a variety of areas. Having voices from a number of home countries and international postings provides, if not a galaxy, certainly a good number of viewpoints. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021 )

Sinclair II -- A good survey of sci-fi and some of the deeper thoughts behind the fiction : The book provides for an excellent survey of popular science fiction and the deeper lessons on leadership and strategy they provide. You do not need to be familiar with all the works referenced, be they sci-fi or academic, but it does help. When reading the book, I found myself adding to my “to-read” pile as I was introduced to new stories and concepts.
